The editorial take
Fieldwork Berkeley is the O.G. taproom where the brewery started in 2014, tucked into West Berkeley's Sixth Street warehouse row and pouring a current board of roughly thirty-two drafts that turns over as fast as a release calendar. The list swings from Dill & Ted's Pickle Lager and Timing & Structure's German Pilsner through Heezer Hefeweizen and Chloe Belgian Pale, to a deep run of West Coast and hazy IPAs — the rotating S-Tier triple-dry-hopped line, a 10 Years of Beers entry like C+C Mosaic Factory, and the 11th-Anniversary 11.0% triple IPA called 11x11 — plus Cow House Milk Stout, the chipotle smoked Don Picante, a tropical Aloha Vibes sour and Raspberry Parfait. The flagship pairs the taps with a full kitchen turning out Detroit-style pizza, fresh salads, wraps and snacky bites, and a serious zero-proof side with award-winning NA beers, Supertonic mocktails and sparkling Hop Water. Flights are the honest way in, at three dollars a pour, with growler fills and 16-ounce cans to go.
- What should I order?
- Start with the flight ladder rather than committing big, since turn matters more than any single name here. A build-your-own three-pour flight at nine dollars can line up a clean lager (Timing & Structure's German Pilsner or Hills & Valleys), a West Coast IPA (Clear Skies if you want low bitterness), and one S-Tier TDH pour for the signature. On a hazy night, Pulp is the benchmark house IPA and Coconut Milk flexes the creamy double-IPA end. Against all that hops, Cow House Milk Stout or the smoked Don Picante Porter gives a dark counter, and for something bright Aloha Vibes' tropical sour lands easily. On a non-drinking turn, the award-winning NA line (Headliner NA IPA or Encore NA Hazy) stands in cleanly. Add a Detroit-style square if you're going to sit.
- Who will enjoy this place?
- IPA devotees who want to chase rotating triple-dry-hopped releases rather than one fixed flagship, flight-ticket drinkers who like comparing a broad style ladder in one sitting, people who appreciate a brewery that also bothers to nail a real kitchen (Detroit-style pizza, salads, wraps), and zero-proof drinkers who want an award-winning NA beer, Supertonic mocktail or sparkling Hop Water that isn't an afterthought. Also anyone in the East Bay looking for growler fills and fresh 16-ounce cans to take home.
- When should I go?
- The taproom is open daily, from noon on weekdays and 11am on weekends, running to 9pm most nights and 10pm Friday and Saturday, so the weekend afternoon offers the longest window with indoor and outdoor seating. Because the draft list is designed to turn, the best approach is to check what has just landed rather than chase a specific old name — a new S-Tier TDH release or anniversary beer is typically the moment to visit. If you want to sit with food, the pizza kitchen runs with the room, and reservations are handled through Resy.
- What should I expect to spend?
- The honest entry point is the flight ladder: three dollars a pour, so nine bucks for three, twelve for four, up to eighteen for a full six-pour flight, or eighteen for a curated staff-pick flight. A slushy treat runs nine to thirteen dollars, specialty 500-ml barrel bottles are ten, and fresh cans go for about seven dollars each in 19.2-oz format or sixteen to twenty for a 4- or 6-pack. A Detroit-style pizza runs eighteen to twenty-four, salads eight to ten, and a plate of shishito peppers or a hot pretzel lands in the single digits. Exact per-glass draft dollar amounts are set on the tap page's own taster-to-full ladder, so confirm the current glass price on the in-house list when you arrive.
- What makes the beverage program distinctive?
- A West Berkeley flagship whose tap list is treated like a release calendar instead of a settled lineup: a 32-pour board front-loaded with a named S-Tier series of triple-dry-hopped IPAs, a 10 Years of Beers set, and an 11th-Anniversary 11.0% triple IPA, over pilot R&D lagers, hefeweizen, a biere de garde, a chipotle smoked porter and fruited sours — all sold through a three-bucks-a-pour flight ladder, growler fills and 16-ounce cans. It is the only brewing room here to pair that constant rotation with a genuine kitchen (Detroit-style square pizza) and an award-winning non-alcoholic line of Supertonics, NA beers and sparkling Hop Water.

Beer
A fast-rotating 32-draft flagship program anchored by a named S-Tier line of triple-dry-hopped IPAs, a 10 Years of Beers series and an 11th-Anniversary 11.0% TIPA, stretching from pickle, watermelon and American lagers and German pilsners through hefeweizen, Belgian pale and biere de garde to West Coast and hazy IPAs, milk stout, a chipotle smoked porter, tropical and fruited sours, hard lemonade and hard seltzer, sold through a three-bucks-a-pour flight ladder.
Menu strengths
- — A genuinely deep, rotating release program organized into named series (S-Tier TDH IPAs, 10 Years of Beers, 11th-Anniversary TIPA) that rewards repeat visits over a single fixed flagship
- — Broad style coverage on one live board, from pickle and watermelon lagers and German pilsners through hefeweizen, biere de garde, West Coast and hazy IPAs, milk stout, smoke porter and sours
- — A high-value flight ladder at $3 a pour plus a serious zero-proof side (award-winning NA beers, Supertonics, sparkling Hop Water) and a real kitchen, all on the flagship West Berkeley room
Standout selections
- — Coconut Milk — Hazy Double IPA, huge creamy body with a tropical mango hop profile, 8.6% ABV
- — 11x11 — TDH Westcoast Triple IPA brewed for the brewery's 11th anniversary, 'an absolute wall of hops', 11.0% ABV
- — Pulp — house Juicy IPA on a lean malt base with all-Citra character, 6.9% ABV, also available as Watermelon Pulp
- — Don Picante — Chipotle Smoked Porter, dark, smooth and smoldering with layered smoke and heat, 6.0% ABV
Pricing: Flights at $3 a pour ($9/3, $12/4, $15/5, $18/6; curated staff-pick $18), to-go 19.2-oz cans $6.99 and 4/6-packs $16-20, specialty 500-ml barrel bottles $10, 32-oz growler fills from a $5 glass and 64-oz from $10; exact per-glass draft dollars are set on the tap page's taster-to-full ladder, so confirm the current glass price on the in-house list.
How it sits with the food
The flagship brings a real kitchen into the taproom, which changes how the beer lands. The crisp lagers and German pilsner are the natural partner for the lighter salads and the Margherita square, while the West Coast and hazy IPAs carry the pepperoni Delivery Boy and the Fireball with sausage, shishito and Calabrian chili. The Dark & Malty pair — Cow House Milk Stout and the smoked Don Picante — suits the spicy and char-forward options, and the tropical sour and hard lemonade work as a bright, clean bracket before food. Because turns rotate constantly, it is easier to order food and let the flight ladder fill in around it than to plan around one beer.
