How we score

The editorial take

Refuge Brewery has been brewing since December 2012, and by 2016 it was the largest brewery in the city and all of Riverside County. The year-round core is three beers: Blood Orange Wit, Baja Crush IPA, and Blonde Ale. Blood Orange Wit, brewed with over 200 lbs of fresh blood oranges per batch, took 2017 GABF Gold in Belgian Style Fruit Beer and ships year round to over a thousand restaurants and bars. Baja Crush IPA and Blonde Ale round out the flagships.

What should I order?
Blood Orange Wit, the 5.0% ABV Belgian-style fruit beer brewed with over 200 lbs of fresh blood oranges per batch and the 2017 GABF Gold winner in Belgian Style Fruit Beer. Baja Crush IPA, an unfiltered 6.2% ABV IPA with Mosaic and Lemon Drop hops, is the second flagship and is available year round in cans and on draft.
Who will enjoy this place?
Anyone building a taproom visit around named year-round flagships rather than one-off releases. The three core beers span a 4.8% ABV blonde, a 5.0% ABV fruit beer, and a 6.2% ABV IPA, so a group with different preferences can each find a flagship.
What makes the beverage program distinctive?
A 2017 GABF Gold in Belgian Style Fruit Beer for Blood Orange Wit, brewed with over 200 lbs of fresh blood oranges per batch, and year-round distribution of that beer to over a thousand restaurants and bars throughout Southern California. The on-site brewhouses include a 20bbl+ 3-vessel, a 5bbl for taproom-only beers, and a 1bbl for small-batch testing.

We only score what a venue sets out to do. Categories a venue doesn't attempt are left unscored rather than penalized.
