The reason to drink at Urban Lodge on Pratt Street is not simply that the beer is made by the company pouring it. It is the range of contrasts available in modest measures. Elvina brings pineapple to a Chardonnay-barrel-aged table beer; Char supplies rauchbier smoke; Mateo takes a crisp West Coast-pilsner route; and Open Trail, Stowe Away, Maui, Front Range, and Double Black Diamond trace several hop intensities. The dark end is equally deliberate, culminating in Bourbon Barrel Aged Packwood, a smoked rye chocolate stout. Most beers can be tested in a 9-ounce pour for $5.25-$5.75 before moving to a $8-$9 pint or 13-ounce strong-beer serving. That pricing turns a flight into the most revealing order in the room. Seven cocktails form a compact supporting list rather than a rival attraction. Porch Swing layers bourbon with apricot, lemon, honey, and orange bitters; Patio Season lengthens gin, Aperol, elderflower, and lemon with seltzer; Lift Ticket combines espresso vodka, Borghetti, and cold brew. The $10-$16 range is sensible downtown, although the recipes offer less singular identity than the cellar. Non-drinkers fare better than at many taprooms because Athletic Run Wild IPA is explicitly offered on draft, with other Athletic flavors, soft drinks, juice, lemonade, and sweet lemon tea. Still, this is a good brewery program with accommodating alternatives, not a three-category showcase of equal depth.
