The editorial take
CX promises experimentation before the first sip: its split-level space contains Lamplighter's barrel-aging and blending operation. The present draft board does not fulfill that promise. Eleven beers appear on the location page, while a separate official tap collection shows 12 by adding Avant Gardener; neither version includes a barrel-aged pour. Instead, the choice is anchored by four IPAs, Lamp Pils, two wheat beers and Dubliners, a 6.6% export stout whose roasted barley, crystal malt and chocolate malt translate into espresso, caramel and toffee. It is a capable lineup, but an unexpectedly conventional one for this particular facility. CX becomes more persuasive as a repeat-visit bar. The 2026 mug club costs $180 and keeps each member's 20-ounce ceramic mug behind the counter. Beer that normally arrives in a 12- or 11.5-ounce glass fills that larger mug for the standard price, and a birthday pour is free. That is a measurable service distinction, not decorative membership. Crazzy Tacos also gives the beer a location-specific food partner: Lamp Pils can cut through nachos, while pineapple-laced Tropic of Cambridge has an obvious role beside chile and pork. Unpublished draft prices prevent a clean value calculation, and the conflicting tap counts need tidying, but CX works well when treated as a neighborhood membership bar awaiting a more adventurous barrel rotation.
- What should I order?
- Open with Dubliners if you want CX's clearest departure from pale, hoppy beer; its firm bitterness keeps the caramel and toffee from turning heavy. Choose Lamp Pils with nachos. Tropic of Cambridge is the deliberate high-impact order for pineapple and chile, not a neutral first round.
- Who will enjoy this place?
- Cambridge Crossing regulars who can exploit the mug club, groups combining beer with tacos, and IPA drinkers who still want stout, pilsner or wheat beer available. Barrel-aged-beer hunters should check the live list before traveling.
- When should I go?
- Match a Monday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday visit to Crazzy Tacos service. Thursday through Saturday hours run to midnight; weekend afternoons also make use of the seasonal outdoor area before the room shifts to its later 21-plus policy.
- What should I expect to spend?
- Standard draft prices are unpublished. The 2026 CX Mug Club renewal costs $180 and changes eligible 12- or 11.5-ounce orders into 20-ounce pours at the ordinary price, plus one free birthday beer; its value depends on visit frequency and usual beer choice.
- What makes the beverage program distinctive?
- A personal 20-ounce mug stored at the bar changes the economics for regulars, while the visible barrel-aging and blending purpose establishes expectations that the current draft list has not yet met.
Beverage categories
We only score what a venue sets out to do. Categories a venue doesn't attempt are left unscored rather than penalized.
Beer
CX combines a solid core roster with an unusually concrete membership pour benefit and useful taco service. Its public tap information conflicts by one beer, and no barrel-aged selection currently represents the facility's advertised specialty.
Menu strengths
- — Member glass size creates a genuine advantage for frequent guests
- — Export stout adds roast and bitterness beyond the pale-beer center
- — An onsite taco counter gives pilsner and pineapple double IPA clear pairing roles
Standout selections
- — Dubliners — 6.6% export stout with espresso, caramel and toffee
- — Tropic of Cambridge — 8% double IPA brewed with pineapple
- — Lamp Pils — 5.3% Czech-style pilsner
Pricing: Regular drafts have no published prices. A $180 annual mug-club renewal gives members 20-ounce pours for the usual 12- or 11.5-ounce price and one free birthday beer.
How it sits with the food
Lamp Pils is the most adaptable taco-counter beer, particularly with fried chips and cheese. Tropic of Cambridge can echo fruit salsa and handle chile, whereas Dubliners belongs with roasted meat, beans or the end of the meal rather than delicate toppings.
